Which model of Vivitar?

Some devices default their USB interface to MTP mode or a proprietary
mode but have a setting that will let you switch to MSC/UMS/mass
storage mode.  MTP and proprietary modes will not be compatible with
Linux drive mounting, but MSC/UMS is compatible with Linux.  Check for
a camera setting that will let you switch to MSC/UMS.
