hi calug community,

this summer i'm teaching myself inkscape, the free vector drawing
program for linux, macintosh and windows. i'm organizing some free
social gatherings for others interested in learning inkscape. these
gatherings will be taking place in takoma park (where i work),
cheverly (where i live) and at some other locations around the
DC-area.

if you're interested in participating in these gatherings (or just
sharing Inkscape tips and techniques online) you can join the
Inkscape Explorations email list i've set up at

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/inkscapeexplorations/

for those who might not know, inkscape is roughly equivalent to
adobe illustrator and coreldraw. in some ways inkscape exceeds
adobe illustrator in features (and in some ways it lacks the
features of adobe illustrator.) inkscape will always be free --
and does not require a lot of processing power to run. you can run
inkscape quite well on a pentium III computer.

here is a youtube video i created a few years ago that shows the
kinds of graphics you can create with inkscape.

i'm no artist, but i love creating computer graphics -- and hanging
out with others who do, too. in the ideas economy, having skill at
communicating graphically can come in handy in lots of different
ways.

            phil

thanks for forwarding this email to others you know who might be
interested in participating in the Inkscape Explorations community.
