There were a lot of turns in this thread, but one I'm confused on is where
this came from ...

I'm only on CALUG, so I don't know what prompted it.

It seemed like a bit of C# and .NET "marketing" if you ask me.  If
anything, a lot of these "Win32-only investments" tend to be the original
problem.
