At yesterday's Ubuntu-MD LoCo meeting we discussed several community
programs that we would like to pursue. The first was Ubuntu Hours. This
is an advocacy program where we meet for an hour on a recurring basis at
a public venue to promote Ubuntu. Ideal locations are coffee shops,
library, senior center or cafe locations with Wifi. We are planning to
approach the Howard County library and coffee shops in Ellicott City and
Catonsville for permission to meet at one of those locations. Once a
location is established we will use social media to promote it.
The second program is the global jam prior to the release of Ubuntu
14.04. We will focus on testing the new release and providing our
feedback during the virtual sessions that will run from April 4 - 6, 2014.
Moreover, we believe this is a great time to promote Ubuntu and other
Linux distros as a replacement for Windows XP which will be losing its
free support in a few months. There is an article that I read today
entitled "10 Things an average Joe must know about Linux",
http://www.efytimes.com/e1/fullnews.asp?edid=127994, that offers
information that can be used when talking with persons unfamiliar with
Linux. It references Wubi which is no longer available, but otherwise it
is a good information piece.
We welcome volunteers who would like to assist us with these events.
Thanks
