I would take a look at <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EmbeddedUbuntu">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EmbeddedUbuntu</a> to see if this might be a better avenue to pursue. The [XK]Ubuntu distros are flexible, but if the kernels are not available for your processor in the distro, it's not going to install.
