The Baltimore ACM Chapter is pleased to announce a presentation by<br>
Prof. Harry Hochheiser of Towson University.<br>

Title: "Voting: The Evolving Political and Technical Landscape"<br>
<br>
Description:<br>
<br>
Although the 2008 elections appear to have gone relatively smoothly,<br>
voting technologies are still the topic of considerable debate among<br>
policy makers and technicians. Some jurisdictions have abandoned<br>
electronic voting machines in favor of paper ballots, others (such as<br>
Maryland) will be returning to paper ballots in 2010, while still<br>
others have required paper trails. Advocates argue for or against<br>
different options, while researchers evaluate voting technologies and<br>
propose new alternative designs. This talk will explore recent<br>
developments in voting technologies and regulations, from both policy<br>
and research perspectives.<br>

About the speaker:<br>
<br>
Prof. Hochheiser is an Assistant Professor in the Department of<br>
Computer Science at Towson University. He is a member of the<br>
Executive Committee of the US Public Policy Committee of the ACM<br>
(USACM). His research interests include accessible privacy and<br>
security, usability, and the social impact of computers. Prior to<br>
joining the faculty at Towson, Prof. Hochheiser did postdoctoral<br>
research at the National Institute on Aging (Bayview) where he<br>
developed information visualization applications for microscopy<br>

After 3 PM on Fridays only, you can park in Towson University's Glen<br>
Garage anywhere without need for a parking permit. Enter the Glen<br>
Garage at the entrance from Cross Campus Drive, near the York Road<br>
intersection, and, once inside, turn left, park in any of the<br>
"commuter" spaces. Walk through the walkway into the 7800 York Road<br>
Building, which leads to that building's third floor level. The<br>
classroom is the first room on the left side of the hall. You may<br>
wait in the fourth floor foyer if you arrive before the room is open.<br>
