Russ,
I have never seen an all-around better shell scripting book than this:
http://www.amazon.com/Shell-Programming-Third-Stephen-Kochan/dp/0672324903/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-5415087-3900940?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192819256&sr=8-1
I have suggested it to many folks (maybe 15-20) who all have thanked me
many times for it.
It is cheap and easy. The only downside is it walks you through shell
scripting from the beginning (grep, sed, cut,tr,etc.) and moves on from
there, which might be a little too 'beginning' for you.
I have been unixing since the mid 90s and a sysadmin since around 2000 and
I keep a copy at home and work, so it is a great reference as well.
hth,
Sean
