[CALUG] Linux on a USB

FWIW,

I have an ipod, a Seagate Free Agent Desktop external HDD, and my pda
cables all connected through USB, and my system hangs on boot much too
often.  Since I just built this sytem, I was afraid I might have a major
hardware failure, but without the USB devices connected it boots fine. So
far, I havent been able to correct the situation.
