[CALUG] nvidia linux

I had a problem with ubuntu and an nvidia card last year, and it had
something to do with buffer clearing. I ended up using a generic driver
instead of the "closed-source" drivers. This resolved the slowing issue, but
I also lost some performance.
Here's a bug report about having problems with planet penguin racer, there
are links to other resources.

Is there anyone there who we could consult with in regards to
performance issues with ubuntu
linux and nvidia graphics cards? Over time we are seeing the graphics
performance slow down.
We have to reboot the computer to restore the performance. I can't see
any rhyme or reason
for it.
