[CALUG] Verizon Wireless 3G with UM175

Eldon,

Thanks for the notes.

I have a UM150 I use with EVDO. I have a process which works with every
Linux flavor I have tried, including BootableLinux (e.g. backtrack).

I recall having to boot to windows initially (and install their
software) to setup my UM150. That was annoying, but I found no way
around it at the time.

My connection process follows these instructions:
http://www.montanamenagerie.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=903

I have the individual files (mentioned in the URL above) in a dir in my
homedir. I then use a little "setup-evdo.sh" script which places
everything in the right place. This allows me to just type "wvdial" and
quickly get out. I prefer this over having to use the gnome/kde
connection wizard on each machine I want access from.

This process with Evdo has never resulted in the DNS servers not
working. Maybe something here could be applied to the UM175 and 3G?

I use this on fedora*, ubuntu*, etc., but particularly like that it
works on my USB-bt3 key allowing me to carry my OS, home, tools, and ISP
in my pocket. This is nice for quick, discrete interventions.
