A picture is worth a lot of words but it takes longer to make one:
Here is the tutorial.
http://www.batw.net/GimpPicTutorial4Text/index.shtml
but my "take screen shot thing" (it use to be alt + the "print screen" button"
is not working the same way it did under Ubuntu Linux so I used my digital
camera to take the pictures for the tutorial and then they had to be cropped,
resized and rotated etc. So I used ShowFoto - a relative of DigiKam. Which is a
very nice image manipulation program that I find much easier to use than GIMP.
So after spending a couple of hours on this project suddenly I thought - "maybe
ShowFoto lets you add text to pictures.
IT DOES. And more easily than DigiKam.
At least look at the Tutorial since I made it to answer the initial question
about adding text to pictures using GIMP.
If anyone knows how to get alt + print screen to take the screen shot using the
window the mouse is currently in - let me know. I have Ubuntu
Maverick and since I upgraded to it several things do not work the same.
grrrrrr
