If you're not interested in joining, then that's your choice.
For those who are interested, you get to pick: - the non-profit/project you're most interested in - the technology you're most comfortable with - if you're a PM/lead, you can dictate the project goals/technologies and products used.
I know the main organizer uses MS technologies, but for this event they welcome all people and skills.
I hope that clear things up.
