[CALUG] android 6 4g too dated ??

hi all,
hope this post isn't too irritating.

I have a android 6, 4 years old,
and the little connection icon 
will say 4g with Tracphone service in Baltimore.

my service ends - renewal - in 2 weeks.

Tracphone sent a mssge saying I need a
 new phone because this phone does
 not support VoLTE..

anyone up to date with this 
shenannigan ?  is this true in general
or would changing carrier work ?
