Hi Eldon:

But doing so is getting easier. To clarify:

Canonical (Ubuntu) refers to the non-GNU licensed software, or software
to which the Federal DMCA (or Maryland's UCITA) legislation may apply as
"restricted". Because of the bad players in the sandbox, the Ubuntu
distributions do not include restricted software.

However; Canonical makes it easy to benefit from the popular/useful
restricted tools (Adobe acroread and flash player, DeCSS for playing
encrypted DVDs, etc.). For example:

     https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/musicvideophotos/C/video-dvd.html
(three mouse clicks and a shell command to get encrypted DVDs to play)

Search the main Ubuntu repository for "restricted". Canonical maintains
a package into which many popular restricted-license programs are bundled.

Sincerely,

- Bernie
