Stuart Hirsch sent the enclosed letter to the Catonsville Senior Center
operations manager. The center has a number of computers that are
running Windows XP.
I want to thank Stuart for helping to promote Ubuntu Linux and open-source.
Thanks

*The End OF XP*

Microsoft has announced that it will no longer support its Windows XP
operating system at the end of this month. This means that they will no
longer provide system updates to correct software bugs and provide
security on all computers running the XP operating system. This will
leave your computer vulnerable to software bugs in the XP operating
system and more importantly will create an opportunity for hackers to
exploit without Microsoft closing these software holes.
The best way to protect yourself is to trade your Windows computer for
either an Apple Macintosh or a PC running Windows 7 or better. Be sure
to take all your important files, back them up in a safe place (DVD,
Flash Drive, Cloud, External HD) to be reloaded on your new computer.
There is however good news for those who would like to use their current
computer or want to save some money. Ubuntu is scheduled to release the
new version (14.04) of its operating system in two weeks. Ubuntu is a
virus and hacker resistant operating system that is supported by the
professional and armature computer community as a nonprofit
organization. It is free of charge and will run on many older computers.
In fact it will outperform Windows because it is linux based. Most
applications are also open source and free of charge. These applications
are equal or better than that of their Windows counterparts.
