[CALUG] scrolling libreoffice draw/writer

Hi

I'm a not a often libreoffice user.   Specially with new ones.

When opening pdf file, Libreoffice 4.x opens
the draw program.  It looks like a powerpoint or whatever..
IT doesn't open "writer".  First appearance to me is this is
normal because it's a pdf file.

Q:  I don't know how to get smooth scroll from one page to another
AND have a large enough type to read.

What I get is a page scroll, and then I have to select the next page
from the LHS page thumbs.

It's a "wide" screen monitor that I'm  getting used to, and prefer the
page images larger.  Any suggestions on how to use the libreoffice
viewer would be appreciated - such as more convenient scrolling 
and larger text.

I also do not see "one stop shopping"   for both opening...
errrrr...... importing??   or saving..... errrrrr.... exporting ???
pdf files.
