plus some gui useage Q's ...
Hi,
The initial install looks nice, and many of the features
are MUCH more smooth and easy to use than before:
and the install looks a lot like Ubuntu: the same Gnome
Package manager ?
A big change from CentOS6.x !!!!
install DVD 1.
I installed a basic CentOS7 system, using the
DVD with the menu giving about 10 choices of
system types. I picked Desktop or Workstation.
! don't know if I can re-use the DVD to install yet
another system type without erasing the existing
system.. Don't want to try without advice.
Generally, I just want to add more packages/features.
Install DVD2 (iso)
I downloaded the "everything" iso, about 8 gigs.
The file roller looks good.
Is it possible to install the packages - rather - applications
from the gui package manager ? or have the Package Manager
display the various applications on the iso ?
I'd prefer not to install from scratch, and don't know what the
other apps are on the iso !! The gnome does show whats on the
present install.
Do I need to setup the iso as a local repository ?
Is totem still the main media app?
What is the media codec situation ?
Has the revision/update system been overhauled to be
transparent ? I know there was a CentOS7.3 built
( rather RHEL 7.3 ) but don't see any way to know which
version I have... other than maybe looking at the versions of
firefox, nautilus, other apps, etc... I guess using a
command line is the only way to find which kernel ?
Lastly, the entire filesystem seems to have been overhauled.
There is now some "run" directory, and the main "computer"
top directory in the gui only shows 50 gigs of a 250 gig drive...
Looks like root is organized differently ? Home is about 200
gigs. How do I simply find the drive size ? And "free" for each
partition ? CLI is necessary ?
Inquiring minds want to know...
thanks!
Walt ..
