[CALUG] Linux & universal docking stations

When you say "universal dock" I'm assuming you mean USB-C / Thunderbolt,
correct?

At UMBC Training Centers, we have had success with the Dell TB16 (mostly
with a Dell XPS 13) on Ubuntu at work. The dock itself is trash (even Dell
admits it), but the replacement TD19TB is supposed to be really great. I
tested it on my setup (again, Ubuntu on an XPS 13) and it worked great, but
I only used it for a day before we deployed it to another user.

My daily driver is actually listed as an "adapter" but if you only need to
drive one external monitor you can pair it with a USB-C power adapter and I
don't really see the difference. Just make sure the adapter is 5-10W more
than your laptop needs so it has enough juice for properly powering the
multi-adapter as well.

I'm using for XPS 13 with the above adapter
