[CALUG] trouble mounting usb cdrw

The SCSI subsystem used in Slackware 10.1 (and 10.2) does not include 
*generic* USB support (there are a couple manufacturer/product-specific 
drivers, such as osst for the OnStream SC-x0 SCSI tape drives). I 
searched for patches a year or two ago when trying to use a 
USB-interfaced CD-RW drive, but at that time developers of USB 
extensions for the SCSI subsystem were focused on kernel 2.6.
